When you are a single Dad it can be hard to find women who not only get that you have children, but like that fact about you! You have probably waited awhile because you are getting over the divorce or break up with your children’s mother. This is a good thing, because you should wait until you are ready. This way when you begin to see someone you are looking for that steady woman in your children’s life.
As there is no surer turn-off for a potential lover than a person who insists on living in the past, make a rule for yourself that you are going to do your absolute best not to drag the past into new relationships. You aren’t going to talk about your ex or how she is with the kids. You are going to live in the moment and enjoy dating.
Your kids are the priority of your life; keep them there no matter what! Your potential partner needs to understand that your children will always come first. If one of them needs you then you will break a date. Someone who doesn’t get this will have to be passed on.
You have been careful to prepare your kids for the fact that you will have a life other than the one with them. But don’t forget to make them understand that they will not lose your love, just some of your time together. You also can let them know that they are still your priority and nothing will change that.
Also you have to be true to yourself. You should never stay with someone for the kids. If you and your partner aren’t working out, but your kids love her, you have to still break it off. If you date a woman with kids it might be easier, but you have to find the one that is right for you.
