Kissing is an essential part of dating. It’s the standard by which we judge whether someone is good in bed and just how strong our attraction is to them. Being a terrible kisser can absolutely jeopardize your chances for a second date or even one night stand, that’s why it’s necessary to know what to avoid when it comes to a steamy make out session.

The rule of thumb is simple: the more thought you put into kissing, the less likely you are to be good at it. It’s a practice that is governed by your gut. You simply have to go with the flow, but here’s what you shouldn’t be doing:

  1. Being too aggressive

We’ve probably all made out with someone who’s gone in too quick for the kill. You know the type, you start making out with them and it feels like they’re eating your face. By all means possible, you must avoid this behavior. Yes, you’re excited to be making out but it must start slow and sensual. There must be a buildup and rhythm towards a full blown hot ‘n heavy make out.

  1. Make sure you use tongue

Nobody wants to make out with a fish, but that’s exactly what happens when you make out with someone who doesn’t know how to use their tongue. It happens when you’re not showing enough enthusiasm for the kiss, and you give a reserved approach. As we said above, don’t go full throttle but don’t go to soft either.

  1. Check your breath

Sometimes make outs happen unexpectedly and we don’t have time to pop in a stick of gum. But as best you can, anticipate the make out and chew some gum prior. You just never know and you never can tell if your breath is smelly or not. One of the number things that puts people off kissing is bad breath so make sure you’re on top of that.

Remember to always keep the saliva in check and to always hit your target. No one likes drool on their chin, cheek or nose. Keep your focus, but at the same time, let loose and see where the make out takes you.
