A lot of romantic connections are formed over food. We love to converse, and socialize over the consumption of something – whether it is food or drinks. But you’ve been seeing your current flame steadily for the past few weeks, then now is the time to invite them over for meal cooked from your heart. Of course, inviting them over is the easy part, but making the preparations can be tricky.

Here are few dos and don’ts to consider:

Do choose foods that increase your energy levels

Something heavy and laden with carbohydrates like meaty lasagna will make you feel lethargic and sleepy. That’s no good if you plan on continuing the night and maybe even having sex.  Stick with light meat like fish or chicken, and partner it up veggies and potatoes. Side salads with nuts are also great organic energy boosters.

Don’t overdo the garlic and spice

If this is your first at home dinner date, then you don’t want to ruin it by cooking a meal that will a) leave you with sticky breathe for the rest of the night and b) have both of fighting for the bathroom with upset stomachs. Garlicky foods are fine to eat when you’re past the “I’m still trying to impress you” phase, but they could potentially leave a bad impression if eaten at the wrong time. The same goes for curries – you’re either going to be burping or farting all night and that is never arousing.

Do consider her food preferences

We would hope that you two have sat down for enough meals together to know that she’s allergic to shellfish and peanuts. Imagine put all your time and energy into creating a beautiful Pad Thai, only for her to say, “I’m allergic”. You have to consider whether she’s vegetarian, vegan or has any aversion to any particular food. The best way to avoid this hassle is to notice what she eats, and pay close attention to the foods she says she enjoys. Take note of whether she drinks white or red wine, and plan your meal around this factor. Whites pair well white meats, while reds pair with red meats.

Always remember to clean your apartment before she arrives, and to set a nice table with candlelight and some solid tunes. But we think you knew that already …
