Once you’ve acknowledged that your porn addiction might be blurring your lines between fiction and reality, its time move forward and actively alter your behavior. Being addicted to hardcore pornography can be a terribly crippling syndrome of someone coping with much deeper mental issues.
Here are some steps to overcome your dependency on X-rated content:
Understand your addiction
Most addictions are rooted in some sort of underlying problem. Track your patterns of porn addiction, when did it start spinning out of control? What were your personal circumstances like at that time? Porn, like drugs and alcohol, is an escape from reality. Why do you want to escape? Why do you think porn is the only thing that makes you feel better? Being able to accept where you’re addiction came from will help you move forward and heal any overlooked wounds.
Throw out your collection
Do you really need the entire Star Whores series from volume 1 to volume 69? We don’t think so. Get rid of the temptation to consume porn, and block all the websites you frequently visit. Anything that reminds of porn is volatile to your recovery. Once you’re over the addiction, you try figure out way to slowly reintroduce a healthy amount of porn in your life, but for now, cold turkey is your only solution.
Find something else to do
Once you eliminate porn from your life, you’ll realize that you have a lot of free time on your hands. Use this time to reconnect with friends you may have lost, or find the time to improve yourself by replacing an unhealthy habit with a healthy habit. These can include going to the gym, taking up a sport, taking lessons or anything you’ve thought about doing but never did. Getting your mind off porn is the key, and once you realize that there is a life beyond it, you will undoubtedly be happier.
